Password generator
A fresh password, a memorable phrase, or a PIN. Made here in your browser.
Generated password
Ready for a fresh password
Choose your options, then generate. Nothing is copied until you ask.An estimate from the generation method, not a crack-time prediction or a guarantee about a website’s security.
How it works
- Choose Random password, Memorable passphrase or PIN. Set a length and any compatibility options required by the website.
- Generate a new value using your browser’s cryptographic random source. Changing settings clears the old value so the display always matches the chosen options.
- Copy deliberately and save the password in your password manager. Generate a different password for each account. Clear the page when finished.
Randomness with a defined method
Each character or word is selected with cryptographic rejection sampling, which avoids modulo bias. When every selected character type is required, complete candidate passwords are redrawn until they satisfy that rule; this preserves equal chances among valid strings. Passphrases select each of 7,776 words independently, and fixed separators add no entropy. PINs allow leading zeroes and repeated digits. There is no seeded replay mode or Math.random fallback.
Your inputs stay with you
Generation happens in this browser. Passwords are not sent to RandJoy, stored in local storage, added to history or placed in a URL. The word list is served from this site. Copying places the password on your system clipboard, which may be retained or synchronized by your device. Clear removes the page value; it cannot securely erase clipboard history, browser memory or screenshots. Hosting may record ordinary page requests, not generated passwords.
What does the entropy estimate tell me?
It describes how many equally likely outputs the configured generator can produce, expressed in bits. For required character types, the calculation excludes strings that fail the rule. Six independently selected EFF words provide about 77 bits before formatting. This does not predict cracking time: password reuse, phishing, device security and the service’s storage and rate limits still matter. A longer unique password and multifactor authentication are useful protections.
A published word list
Memorable passphrases use EFF’s unmodified 7,776-word long list, checked on November 6, 2026, under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. RandJoy uses browser randomness in place of physical dice. EFF does not endorse this tool. EFF · CC BY 4.0 · View the word list
