Enter at least two names. Choose how to handle odd numbers in Settings. How it works
- Enter one person per line, using distinct names. In Settings, choose one trio or one unpaired person for an odd-sized group.
- Make pairs shuffles the roster and groups every person once. With an odd count, the chosen policy is applied before the remaining pairs are formed.
- Copy, export or print the grouping. Results keeps up to 30 recent pairings in this browser. Generating again starts a fresh independent draw.
Pairs, trios and an honest odd-person rule
The roster is uniformly shuffled with browser cryptographic randomness before grouping. For an odd count, either three randomly chosen people form a trio or one randomly chosen person remains unpaired. Every name appears exactly once. The tool is suited to classroom partners, workshop exercises and practice sessions; it does not avoid previous partners across repeated rounds.
Your inputs stay with you
Your entries, settings and results are processed in this browser and are not sent to our server. Clearing browser data removes saved drafts and results. Export a text file if you want to keep a copy. Hosting may record standard page-request logs.
What happens with three people?
Make one trio puts all three people together. Leave one person unpaired creates one pair and identifies the remaining person. With two people, both policies create one pair. For larger groups or teams with a target size, use Random teams. For assigning duties rather than partners, use Random task assignment.
